Additional items, maybe not tools

There are some additional items that I feel should be listed under the tools heading, though these are not tools.  More information can be located under clothing.

Bluetooth hearing protection.  These are mentioned elsewhere but they are that important.  You will generate a lot of noise.  Mowers, tractors, chainsaws, air compressors, the list goes on.  To avoid that pesky ringing in your ears, protect them.  I prefer the Bluetooth style so I can listen to music and audio books while I work.

Similarly to the above, a Bluetooth speaker is nice to have for when you do not need hearing protection.

Gloves, leather, and several pairs.  These will save your hands.  Your gloves will get wet, covered in muck, torn, and worn out.  That is what they are for.  Have extras so while one pair is drying you do not go without.  These do not have to be expensive either.  I have Carhart fencing gloves, Wells LaMont heavy duties, and I love them.  They are hard to break.  But I also have a box, yes, a box, of thin leather gloves.  I wear these most of the time because they are inexpensive, about $3 a pair.  They last 1 to 3 months with occasional repair stitching.  I also have a few pairs of "Mechanics" gloves, the brand "Mechanics".  These are good when dexterity is required.

Work Boots.  You will be on your feet, a lot.  Get a good pair of boots.  Better yet, get several.  Like gloves, your boots will get, wet, covered in muck, torn and worn out.  You will want a spare when this happens.  Also, the boot's sole will not blow out when you are at the store, it will happen while you are in the field.  Have a spare.  My boots are all leather, waterproof, steel toe with good traction.  I insert an extra insole for comfort and support.  All told these run $70.  I keep 550 cord handy when boot laces break.

Muck boots.  Wear the right gear for the right job.  It will rain.  Animals will mess.  All the things.  Muck boots protect both your feet and your other boots.  If the situation is really nasty, which it will be at times, Muck it.  I have also found that having a pair a size to big allows for wearing extra socks in the winter.  This is good, since no, you will not have winters off.
