Guardians of Eden FAQs

What breeds do you have on the farm?
At Edenish Acres, we are a Cane (pronounced CAH-Nay) Corso and Rottweiler family. We have found these breeds to be the ultimate in farm and family protection dogs. They are highly intelligent, trainable breeds, with a keen sense of loyalty and family.
They are not for everyone. Ranging between 95 and 165 pounds, these giant cuddlers love to run and play, but also love to work! We recommend these breeds only for households experienced with giant breed dogs, preferably of a Molosser variety.
What does the term Molosser mean?
Molosser breeds are distinguished by their broad chests, imposing size, and powerful, muscular legs. This category primarily consists of bully breeds, mastiffs, and those that have evolved from these two main subgroups over time.
Most experts agree that the term "Molosser” comes from the Molossi tribes of Ancient Greece, where these dogs are believed to have originated. One of the oldest canine groups in existence, these breeds are generally split into two types: home guardians and flock guardians.
Are your dogs working dogs?
Yes they are. Their daily chores include checking on all the animals, riding around on the tractor, helping to pull watering hoses, and they keep a keen eye out for predators native to our area (including alligators, cougars, coyotes, and birds of prey). They also take their nightly sentry duty very seriously, and have created their own shifts to patrol the property and alert us of any concerns.
Are they "outside dogs"?
Yes and No.
Our dogs are trained from birth to "work the homestead", so they spend a great deal of time all around the property. They have free access to the property (except inside the chicken coop - roosters are mean).
They also have free access to the house. They are an integral part of our family and they are just as at home watching a movie with us as they are out on the homestead.
Are they good with kids?
First and foremost, these are working dogs, so they are happiest and most fulfilled when they have a job to do. However, we take special care to socialize our dogs early and often to ensure they have a happy, safe life. This includes socializing them with children and animals of all ages/sizes. When socialized early, these breeds make excellent family dogs.
Regardless of temperament, these are very large, incredibly powerful dogs, so care must be taken to ensure no accidental injuries occur. They could easily knock a small child or elderly person down, and if a 160 lb. dog steps on you, it hurts, no matter how old you are.
Are they good with other animals?
Yes. We take special care to socialize our dogs early and often to ensure they have a happy, safe life. This includes socializing them with other animals, from dogs and cats, to a range of farm animals, including rabbits, chickens, ducks, sheep, pigs, and cattle. When socialized and trained early, these breeds make excellent farm dogs.
Do you breed your dogs?
Yes, we have a selective and controlled breeding program here on the farm designed to honor these amazing breeds. We breed for temperament and trainability, with the targeted goals of producing strong, healthy, well-tempered dogs that excel as family companions and working dogs, while improving breed standards.
Do you sell your puppies?
We selectively sell puppies, but because they are also a part of our family, we require an application from any prospective buyers. These breeds are given a bad reputation because irresponsible or cruel people abuse them or do not know how to handle a large-breed, powerful working dog. We reserve the right to refuse to sell our puppies to anyone, and we require that if any approved buyer is unable to handle or keep a puppy they've purchased from us, for any reason, that they return them to us. They will always have a place on our farm.
We also may delay placement into a home of a buyer until a puppy reaches 3 months old. This gives us the opportunity to house-break them, teach them basic commands, and ensure they have appropriate socialization. This added time helps us to ensure they have the best possible start to life and that they can successfully integrate with their new family.
Do you have any puppies available?
We will notify interested parties when new litters are on the way and will keep them up to date on puppy availability. If you would like to receive these notifications, please subscribe to the Puppy Alert below. This list is only for puppy news, and is not the regular newsletter.
